This paper explore the concept of information and its place in information science. First, the way we understand concepts in general is reviewed through the article: ”Poverty of Linnaean Hierarchy: A Philosophical Study of Biological Taxonomy” by Marc Ereshefsky (2000). Then through various articles by several leading researchers in the information science field, the ides of information, and its possible meanings and uses are explored, analysed and challenged, and finally the article: ”Task Complexity Affects Information Seeking and Use” by Byström & Järvelin (1995) is analysed as an example of a way to view the concept of information and how this effects the scope of their work.
