This Master’s thesis is set out to investigate Google’s use of personalized search and the
awareness of the users and their opinion concerning personalized search. A survey sample
was conducted, and the results showed how the personalized search can affect the users
search results and that the users could possibly receive different search results. The
awareness of the users and their opinion was investigated with the help of a focus group
interview and a questionnaire. The results showed that the users had a very good
understanding of personalized search and that the majority chose to see personalized
search as a positive thing. This thesis concludes that the personalized search isn’t as bad
of a thing as most researchers and scientists make it to be.
