This masters thesis titled Communicating digitalized cultural heritage is
framed by the research question How do institutions under the Ministry of
Culture relate to communicating digitalized cultural heritage? The thesis
starts by explaining the Danish concept of heritage and moves futher on
explaining and exemplifieng the concept of prosuming. Then it analyzes the
recommendations stated in five reports from the Ministry and the Digitization
Committee. Then the thesis work with three case studies: The Royal Library,
National Archives and the Danish Folklore Archives. Each case is analyzed
through the performance contract with the Ministry, interviews and analysis
of website. Finally it is beeing tested how open minded and the institutions
are to external partners coming with ideas on how to develop new
communications projects. Findings: The institutions seems apparently open
to discuss project ideas with external actors. In addition, the thesis finds that
there is no direct correlation between the reports recommendations to open
up for new users and making cultural heritage wide digitally accessible, and
the institutions way of acting. There also is a big difference in how the
institutions work with the dissemination of cultural heritage and their position
on this.
