Through a discourse text analysis this paper deals with the challenges of Danish public and research libraries, through the analysis and discussion of two Danish strategies as created by different participants with significance to the library world and its surroundings. Furthermore, the discussion reflects on the different streams and foundations of the challenges Danish libraries face today, in particular globalization in a knowledge society.
This paper concludes that the two strategies spring from very different discourses, where the public libraries must tend to a spectrum of needs in the population, and the research libraries mostly supports students and researchers in the academic field. There is still use for the physical libraries if the strategies suggested can be carried out.
