The paper conducts a heuristic evaluation of the Danish website Nota is a library specialised in servicing people with reading disabilities.
The main subject is dyslexia and the potential of usability studies improving the everyday life web browsing of dyslexic people.
The purpose of the paper is to offer a critical perspective on Nota’s website along with possible solutions to the usability problems encountered in the website.
Usability plays a crucial role for the accessibility for the dyslexic population. The findings of the evaluation are that some of the guidelines for web design are followed in Nota’s design. Improvement is required to obtain optimal communication and usability for users with dyslexia
In general, the research available on dyslexics and usability problems needs further empirical study.
This paper indicates the lack of awareness of dyslexics’ need for customization in web design.
